World Music Awards winner debuts new music at The Arden Theatre. Marco Claveria Project expands repertoire to include English songs. St. Albert, AB – Edmonton-based musician Marco Claveria is set to tease audiences with music from his upcoming album, Evolution, at The Arden Theatre on Friday, January 27, 2017. While the popular Chilean-Canadian has built a loyal fan base with his entirely Spanish written repertoire and appreciates that people can understand the emotional aspects of a song without speaking the same language as the artist, he continually strives to have as many people as possible identify with the intended messages of his music. With that spirit in mind, Claveria has expanded his repertoire to include English songs, one of which he will debut at The Arden Theatre. “For me, it’s always been about introducing, not just audiences, but musicians as well, to something that they’ve never heard before,” Claveria says. “There is a group of people right here in Edmonton that are playing great Latin music. It’s not from New York or LA or Cuba, it’s right here in our own city – pure Canadian content!” Born in Santiago, Chile to a musical family, Claveria began playing guitar at the age of 10, learning Chilean folk songs and other styles of popular Chilean music such as Cuecas, Tonadas, Resbaloza and Argentinian Samba. After immigrating to Canada in the early ‘80s, his musical horizons continued to broaden as he immersed himself into the minds of some of Cuba’s greatest musical masters, helped found the popular Alberta group, ¡Bomba! and extensively toured South America, the United States and Canada. Now, the 2015 World Music Awards winner fuses Afro-Peruvian, Brazilian, Cuban and Chilean music with his band, the Marco Claveria Project. In his most recent release, Origins, the selfproclaimed Chilean at heart pays homage to his homeland. “As an immigrant, I wanted to let people know that it’s important to remember where you came from, no matter how long you’ve been away,” he says.
